These things do seem to come in waves, don't they.

I have great memories of hearing Celibidache and the Munich Philharmonic performing Bruckner's Third in St Florian five years ago. I was also fortunate enough to attend his Berlin Philharmonic reunion concert in March 1992. According to a newspaper report at the time, many members of the orchestra stayed on after a rehearsal to talk with him at length about music. At the concert itself, the orchestra did him the honour of leaving the stage early so that he could take his bows alone. I have also heard that members of the London Symphony Orchestra consider him to be the finest Bruckner conductor they have worked with - and remember, this orchestra often played under Jochum.

It is fortunate that he consented in his later years to make some video recordings. A number of these have yet, AFAIK, to be released; his admirers will have that to look forward to.

Naun.
